Places with no figure

BEA publishes no GDP for 2024 under their own code for 53 places the Census Bureau lists, so they have no rank. A place BEA published a GDP for in an earlier year keeps its page; one that never had a figure has none.

As published

The GDP is in current dollars for the calendar year, not seasonally adjusted, as BEA publishes it. The ranks, the changes in real GDP and the GDP per person are ours.

Understanding the ranking

Where it stands today

New York County, NY had the largest GDP, $1.01 trillion, in 2024.

How is the ranking made?

This page ranks the counties and county equivalents of the 50 states and the District of Columbia by their GDP, the value of what is produced in each in a year, in the newest year the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) has published. The largest are shown here; each state has a page that lists all its counties, and each county a page of its own with its history since 2001, its personal income and its population.

What this number cannot tell you

  • BEA publishes the GDP of the counties once a year, in December, for the year before. It combines some places, such as some Virginia cities with the county around them, and publishes none for others; a place with no BEA figure under its own code has no rank, and a page only if BEA published a GDP for it in an earlier year.
  • GDP counts what is produced in a county, wherever the people who work there live. A county with a large employer can have a GDP that is large next to its population, which GDP per person shows.
  • Real GDP is BEA's measure with price changes taken out, in chained 2017 dollars; the change over a year and GDP per person are ours, worked out from the values BEA publishes.
  • This product uses the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) Data API but is not endorsed or certified by BEA.
