Speculators' net position as a share of open interest, the largest net shorts and net longs in this list
- Leveraged funds (financial futures)
- Managed money (commodity futures)
Each bar is the net position of the speculators in one market, long contracts less short contracts, as a share of that market's open interest, for the markets in this list with the largest net short and net long share. Contracts differ in size between markets, so the share, not the number of contracts, is what the bars compare. A market with a page of its own links it from its name.

Understanding the futures positions reports
Where it stands today
Every market listed here was reported in the week to 20 October 2026, or in the last week the CFTC reported it.
Who are the speculators, dealers and producers in the report?
The CFTC's Commitments of Traders reports give the positions held in each futures market on a Tuesday, sorted by kind of trader. The Traders in Financial Futures report covers stock indexes, currencies, the dollar index and volatility, and names leveraged funds, asset managers, dealers and other reportable traders. The Disaggregated report covers metals, energy and farm goods, and names managed money, producers and merchants, swap dealers and other reportable traders.

This page calls leveraged funds and managed money the speculators. The other column holds the net position of the dealers in a financial futures market and of the producers and merchants in a commodity futures market, the CFTC's own group names. A market has a page of its own where we hold five years of its weekly reports; the others are rows of the table. The list is the 55 markets this site follows, a selection from the CFTC's reports, in futures only and in contracts; other markets in the reports are not listed.
What 500metrics adds: net positions (long less short, which leave out spread positions) and the net position as a share of open interest, which lets markets with contracts of different sizes sit in one list.

What this number cannot tell you
- Positions are those of the Tuesday each report is dated; the CFTC released the reports on 23 October 2026.
- A trader's group comes from the CFTC's own classification. Spread positions are neither long nor short in a net position.
- Contracts are not comparable between markets; the share of open interest is.
- Market names are the CFTC's own, written as it writes them. 500metrics is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by any index provider, exchange or company named in them.
- Our collector holds the reports from 13 June 2006; the CFTC can revise a week in a later report, and our collector keeps the earlier figure.
