Each chip is one month's change from the same month a year earlier. The mark in its middle is zero: a fill to the right of it is a rise and a fill to the left a fall. A longer, brighter fill is a larger change, in five steps up to 13.8 and over. Every chip prints its figure and sign.

Where it stands today

The largest change over a year was Turkish lira, up 15.5%, in September 2026.

What do the lines of this page measure?

These are the euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank (ECB): the amount of each currency that one euro equals. The ECB usually publishes them at around 16:00 CET on each working day, based on a concertation among central banks in Europe that normally takes place at around 14:10 CET. This page shows the monthly average of the daily rates, as the ECB publishes it.

What 500metrics adds: the change over a year of every currency, ranked across the page; the last ten years of every currency as rows of small charts; and a table of the change over a year in each of the last twelve months. The ECB's values are shown as it publishes them, to the number of decimals it gives each currency.

What do these figures leave out, and how are they cited?Limits, dates and how to cite

What this number cannot tell you

  • The ECB publishes the reference rates for information purposes only and strongly discourages using them for transactions.
  • Each rate is the amount of the currency for one euro, so a higher number is more of that currency for one euro. The currencies are in different units, so only the changes, not the values, are comparable across the page.
  • The ECB gives each currency its own number of decimals, and this page prints each as the ECB does. The ECB averages a month's daily rates to more places than it prints, and 500metrics holds each average to six decimal places, rounded half to even, so a value held can differ from the ECB's in the seventh place or beyond. The Bulgarian lev left the list when Bulgaria joined the euro area on 1 January 2026.
  • The changes and the ranks are ours, worked out from the values the ECB publishes; a change is in percent.
