What a Treasury buyback is
In a buyback Treasury buys back its own older securities before they mature. Liquidity support operations buy off-the-run securities in a maturity bucket, up to the amount shown; cash management operations buy securities that mature soon, to smooth Treasury's cash balance. Treasury announces each operation the business day before and may change or cancel it.
