How these are measured
Each rate is the Federal Reserve Board's H.15 series as published for each business day. Treasury constant maturities are Treasury's own yields at fixed terms, read from its daily curve; the 3-month bill rate is the secondary market rate on a discount basis; the prime rate is the rate most large banks post. Yearly averages are computed by 500metrics as the plain mean of the business days with a value, rounded to two decimals.
What this number cannot tell you
- A yearly average hides the moves inside the year: a rate page shows each year's high and low.
- A year with only some business days held (the first year of a series, or the running year) averages those days only.
