What do the lines of this page measure?
The Federal Reserve Board (the Board) quotes four currencies in its H.10 release as the amount of US dollars for one unit of the currency: the euro, the British pound, the Australian dollar and the New Zealand dollar. The Board publishes the daily rates in its H.10 release and their monthly averages in its G.5 release. The daily rates are noon buying rates in New York for cable transfers payable in the listed currencies, certified by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for customs purposes.

What this number cannot tell you
- These are the Board's own rates, certified for customs purposes. They are not prices from an exchange, a bank or a dealer.
- A month's value is the monthly average of the daily rates that the Board's G.5 release publishes. The Board prints the rates to four decimal places, and this page prints them as published.
- Each rate is the amount of US dollars for one unit of the currency, so a higher number is more dollars for one unit. The other currencies on the Board's list are quoted the other way and are on the dollar exchange rates page.
- The changes and the ranks are ours, worked out from the values the Board publishes; a change is in percent.
