Understanding riksbank rates

Where it stands today

The largest change over a year was Deposit rate, unchanged, in October 2026.

What do the lines of this page measure?

Sveriges Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden, sets three interest rates. The policy rate is the rate at which banks can borrow from the Riksbank or deposit money with it for seven days, and it is the Riksbank's most important rate; until 8 June 2022 it was called the repo rate. The deposit rate is what banks earn on money they leave with the Riksbank overnight, and the lending rate is what they pay to borrow from it overnight. The deposit rate is the floor and the lending rate the ceiling of the Riksbank's interest rate corridor.

What do these figures leave out, and how are they cited?Limits, dates and how to cite

What this number cannot tell you

  • The Riksbank publishes these series for every business day. A month's value here is the value of the last business day of the month, and a month shows only after the Riksbank has published a day of a later month.
  • The three series begin on 1 June 1994; the page of Sweden on the central bank rates page shows the BIS series of the policy rate from 1946. The Riksbank sets the width of the corridor itself and has changed it, so the gap between the three rates is not always the same.
  • The changes and the ranks are ours, worked out from the values the Riksbank publishes, and the monthly values are ours, taken from its daily ones; a change is in percentage points.
