What do the lines of this page measure?

The Bank of Canada sets a target for the overnight rate, the rate at which the major banks lend to each other for one day, and changes it on dates it announces. The Canadian Overnight Repo Rate Average (CORRA) is the bank's measure of the average rate on overnight loans against Government of Canada securities. The yields are those of the Government of Canada benchmark bonds of 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 years and of its long-term bonds.

What do these figures leave out, and how are they cited?Limits, dates and how to cite

What this number cannot tell you

  • The Bank of Canada publishes these series every business day. A month's value here is the value of the last day of the month that has one, and a month shows only after the bank has published a day of the month after it.
  • The series begin on different days: CORRA on 12 August 1997, the benchmark yields on 2 January 2001 and the daily series of the target for the overnight rate on 21 April 2009 (the central bank rates page has the policy rate of Canada from 1960). CORRA is published to four places and the page prints every line to two.
  • The changes and the ranks are ours, worked out from the values the Bank of Canada publishes, and the monthly values are ours, taken from its daily ones; a change is in percentage points.
