What do these figures leave out, and how are they cited?Limits, dates and how to cite

What this number cannot tell you

  • The index is the Board's own measure. It is not a price from an exchange, and it is not the index that exchanges and data companies publish under similar names.
  • A month's value is the monthly average of the daily values that the Board's G.5 release publishes. The Board prints the index to four decimal places, and this page prints it as published.
  • A higher index is a higher value of the dollar against the group of currencies, in the Board's nominal measure; it does not adjust for prices.
  • The changes, the ranks and the highest and lowest values are ours, worked out from the values the Board publishes; a change is in percent.
